Alex Yuan is a successful entrepreneur, long-time York Region resident, devoted family man and charitable humanitarian with deep roots in the community. He is the president and founder of A&L Computer Software Limited, and responsible for growing that company into a leading medical software development company in Ontario.
A pioneering entrepreneur, visionary and community volunteer, Alex has received a number of honours and awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award for volunteerism, Ontario Volunteer Service Award, Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs, Outstanding Business Achievement award from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Chinese-Canadian Legend award, among others.
Alex values professionalism and enjoys building relationships with other thought leaders and people of different cultural and professional backgrounds and enjoys deep ties within many cultural communities. His deeply rooted commitment and spirit comes from lessons learned at 16 years of age when his family emigrated from Hong Kong and he experienced the harsh realities of integrating into Canadian life with limited financial resources.
His charitable work included founding the S’port for Kids Foundation that served Ontario communities for 18 years. Over 50,000 children received more than $1 million for various community sport programs, improving their quality of life and experiences which earned the trust and support of regional businesses, national media, politicians and sports celebrities. Alex is a past appointee to the Ontario Jobs and Investment Board and Ontario Medical Association where he provided strong leadership for the Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund. Alex Yuan’s desire to give back to his community also led him to serve as a member of the Toronto Police Services Consultative Committee to the Chinese community and as a director of CAYRE, a program of the York Region District School Board that enhanced opportunities for at-risk youth. Alex is currently an Honourary member of Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association.
Alex and his wife Lucy lives in York Region for over 30 years. Together they are the proud parents of two adult children and one precocious grandchild.
